2nd Generation Driver Looking to Continue Father’s Legacy

Skylar Robinson looks to continue father’s legacy at Road Atlanta.

Augusta, Georgia, (March 28) While his classmates are at the beach or camping in the mountains during Spring break, recently turned 18 year-old Skylar Robinson will be making his “slicks and wings” debut in an F2000 car at Road Atlanta (April 11-13).

The Augusta, Georgia native has progressed up the open wheel racing ladder very quickly. Starting in the Skip Barber racing series in the Winter of 2012, the high school honor student claimed 5 wins in 12 races which earned him 3rd in the Winter Series as well as the Rookie of the Year award. Robinson then moved up to the British Racing and Sports Car Club Formula Ford National Championship for the summer. While in the UK, the American claimed 2nd in the championship in addition to 4 wins and numerous podiums. Skylar also won the BRSCC Formula Ford Triple Crown Championship which is a mini-championship that counts the rounds at Silverstone, Donington Park, and Brands Hatch.

Due to his success overseas, Robinson was nominated for a prestigious Team USA Scholarship. Past recipients of the award include Indy 500 winner Buddy Rice and Indy 500 winning team owner Bryan Herta. Additionally, Robinson was chosen as the United States representative to the FIA Academy Americas Selection event where he was a finalist.

This year will be no different for Skylar as he will look to continue his success at Road Atlanta. Skylar’s father, Chip Robinson, won the 1989 Grand Prix of Atlanta in a factory prepared Nissan ZX-T in the Camel GT Series.

“I love this track. The elevation change makes it picturesque and its mix of heavy braking zones and high speed turns gives it a little bit of everything. Also, this is my “home” track”, Skylar stated.

Skylar will have a crew of past champions to aid him in his quest. With championship winning team Eric Langbein Racing tuning the car, Skylar will have the necessary tools to run up front. “This will be my first race weekend with Eric and the guys at Eric Langbein Racing, but after our test day, I know our team chemistry is great”, Skylar said. “I think it will take a couple of races to learn the characteristics of racing with slicks and wings, but I am confident that we will be contenders”, he continued.

“I am super excited for the first race, and I can’t wait to get the 2014 F2000 Championship Series underway”, Skylar exclaimed.
