Lighthouse Family Retreat Is
Official Charity of Petit Le Mans

Lighthouse Family Retreat is a wonderful organization, and Road Atlanta is proud to be associated with the Official Charity of Petit Le Mans.

In 2006, total donations to Lighthouse Retreat totaled $33,509 through a variety of events surrounding Petit Le Mans. An original painting by Bill Patterson, who designed the cover for the Petit Le Mans souvenir program, fetched $3,500 at an auction during Dr. Don Panoz’ traditional Friday evening VIP dinner at Chateau Élan.

The third annual Petit Le Mans Charity Motorcycle Ride, held Sunday after the race added to the total fund raising efforts, which also included a cash donation from Road Atlanta.

A raffle awarded a new Suzuki motorcycle and a two-day Kevin Schwantz Suzuki School gift certificate to Aaron Coalwell of Austell, Ga. One thousand raffle tickets were sold during the race in a booth in Vendor Village.

The Lighthouse Family Retreat offers a seaside vacation for families of children battling cancer. Based in Roswell, Ga., the Lighthouse Family Retreat has been the Official Charity of Petit Le Mans for three years. SCCA World Challenge driver Dr. Jim Osborn of Ooltewah, Tenn., originally got Road Atlanta involved with the Lighthouse Family Retreat, and he and his wife Amy Jo, direct the fund raising activities, including organization of the Charity Motorcycle Ride.

Tragically, the Osborn family lost their nine-week-old son, Hatch, to cancer on Oct. 19, 2006. The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer (www.hatcherfoundation.org) was formed in December 2006 and is a non profit 501-c3 corporation. The Austin Hatcher Foundation has partnered with Road Atlanta and Chili Pepper Racing to raise money during the Petit Le Mans weekend to help raise money for the Lighthouse Family Retreat.

The Lighthouse Family Retreat’s mission is “to serve children with cancer and their families at a seaside retreat and help them to laugh, restore family relationships and find hope in God. Our hope is that families return home from The Lighthouse and continue their journey with renewed strength, hope and love”. For more information, visit www.lighthousefamilyretreat.org.

"When I heard that the American Le Mans Series was going even more green in 2008, I just had to be a part of it. Having championed green racing at the national level in the U.K. - and secured the first ever outright victory for a bio-fuelled car last year in British GT - it's great to have the opportunity this year to race against the best in the world. The American Le Mans Series' Green Challenge is a brilliant idea. Climate change is the greatest challenge facing our generation and motorsport has its part to play. Our sport doesn't just spur innovation, it changes perceptions, particularly GT racing which is relevant to what people see on the roads. We can show how cool, fast cars can be green too - expanding consumer demand for green technology and making sure that motor racing stays relevant in the 21st century. It's a great initiative and I'm delighted to compete in it."
